Kitchen Progress
The kitchen is coming along SLOW but SURE. I'm trying to get as much done as I can during the days and Oscar is doing as much as he can on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. So far we have striped all the drywall off, ripped down a portion of an existing wall, moved the sink drain, moved all the water lines, added a water line to the fridge, rewired all the electrical switches and outlets, added new insulation, and installed new can lights and pendant light boxes.
This is the wall we cut out and added the NEW wall to. We will have 6 feet of counter with this baby!!
Last shot before drywall.
Here is what the walls looked like after the drywall was up, popcorn ceiling scraped,
and mud on everything.
After a few coats of paint. "Open Sesame" B:30 C:2Y34 R:20, just in case I forget! We started hanging the cabinets!!!
The pick up! It took 2 trips to Rosedale Hwy.
Everything went pretty smoothly except for ONE thing. If you buy cabinets that are 8 feet tall. and your ceilings are 8 feet tall, you can't lift the huge things up without cutting a hole in your new drywall ceiling. We actually had to cut two holes, because our ceiling dips down in the middle of the kitchen. It really wasn't a big deal, but it sure would have been nice to NOT have to do it! Kitchen in, office in GRANITE was next.
Oh the granite is HEAVENLY! Oscar and I made all the cuts and everything was perfect. No breaks, no mistakes, and little mess. It really was amazing. Granite is always a little nerve racking because 1. its expensive 2. its HEAVY 3. It has to be picked up, moved, and dropped off AGAIN if we messed up. Now we are old pro's! HAHAHA
Its really hard to get good pictures of a galley kitchen. Here a couple of right after we got the granite in.
This is the north kitchen wall.
This is the south kitchen wall.
Our little project is taking WAYYYYYY longer than we expected. We came in UNDER budget which is AWESOME, BUT we still aren't DONE so I guess I can count THAT chicken YET!
Here is the main reason for the lengthy delays. HELPERS. We have 5 of them and this little girl likes to be right on my hip, right on your lab, on the ladders, in the middle of it. She helped Oscar with the dishwasher install on this day and she climbed up under the sink with him for the new disposal too. We still have a LOT of trim work to do AND I can't forget the floor. I haven't even LOOKED at any flooring yet. I hope before summer I'll get the finished product pictures up on here. I the mean time it is functioning and AWESOME. I made rolls for New Years Eve and it was HEAVEN with the granite counters. Its awesome having a dishwasher again, even if I always forget I have one and don't start the silly thing! Hot water and a sink is AWESOME too. We have also been enjoying our microwave after 15 months of doing without. LOVE OUR NEW KITCHEN!
