GATE

Nathan's school started a GATE program after school on Wednesdays.  They have a late bus that brings him home and he just LOVES it.  This quarter they got to choose between the oral language festival or the science fair.  He chose the science fair (was there really any doubt)  He told his teacher he was going to try different liquids to see which "crystallized salt faster"  I called a chatted with her for a little while to see what was expected and then I talked to Nathan and explained how things in your head don't necessarily work. And how salt would just dissolve doing the project how he was planning on doing it.  I thought for a long time about something he would really enjoy investigating.  He really wanted to use salt for some reason.  We came up with which salt makes water boil at the hottest temperature.  Or WHY does the macaroni and cheese package have you at salt to the water when boiling the noodles?  It was successful SO he got chosen to go to the county science fair along with 9 other groups/kids.  Now we need to make a board for the fair in march.  He is very excited.
